I talked to one businessowner today who said "I hate going into Wellington" for the same reason. "Free trams" are a great idea, Wellington had trams in the turn of the century - you now, when Bob Jones was a young man - but it seriously would be good to get modern electric trams instead of the 5 000 buses cramming and shunting their way at 1metre/hour down one street in the middle of the city today. Buses could use Featherston instead of Lambton Quay, while the cbd is a free tram zone. Not bad. The only problem is we're sick of the existing infrastructure that doesn't work (see: Transmetro) so there'll be little patience for putting in yet another entirely new infrstructure that'll be mismanged.

A market rebel, an indomitable entrepreneur, a true capitalist; Paul deserves our admiration. Why on earth would 'In Business', by all accounts a classy, intelligent magazine, insult her by turning her into Che Guevara on the cover of your magazine?! Your choice of design is so incomprehensible on so many levels that I'm not sure where to begin with my outrage.

Che the guerilla was a Marxist, the living epitome of an anti-freedom, anti-capitalist movement -- the sworn enemy of the free market. The fact his effigy has become a best-selling T-Shirt all over the world would make any genuine dead Marxist turn in his grave. If Che and his comrades had had their way, there would be no such commercialism, for as their dear mentor Marx declared, "My object in life is to... destroy capitalism."

A short history lesson that seems to have escaped your Editor and Art Director:

The star emblazoning Paul's cap is a symbol of an ideology that saw, in less than half a century, the murder of as many as 100 million people. In the years following the communist rise to power in Cuba, Guevara and comrade Castro personally oversaw the brutal torture and execution of some 14,000 freedom fighters, who had first suffered under the fascist regime only to be denied liberty by a more virulent form of totalitarianism. I've included a link below that I implore you to visit, which will shed some light on the poster boy of arguably the most despicable ideology ever to infect the world.

"Give the people what they want", cries your militantly typeset headline. That you think this was Guevara's intention is beyond ignorant. He may have rescued the people from a malevolence force, but instead of delivering them the freedoms for which they had bled, he simply assumed the office of the Baptista dictatorship and proceeded to institute his own brand of oppression. At least Baptista didn't pretend to be doing it for the greater good of the people.

Paul says, "If you are going to go into business or be an entrepreneur, at some point you are going to fail. You can't have great success without great failure." Marxism just wants her to fail. When Paul first went on TV and made her fortune she was, according to Marx, feeding on the rotting corpse of capitalism. There couldn't be a more inappropriate defacing of a diehard marketer than to don her in the cap of a communist.

Sincerely,

G. Jameson

Hi Tim, I read with interest Bob Jone's article on Telecom et al.

Bob should at least acknowledge that Telecom themselves recognise that they are crap. Therefore, Telecom have a compliants service available Mon -Sun 7am-9pm.This means that Telecom reckon on compliants some 42% of the total time available. This is particularly noteworthy in view of the fact that the remaining 66% of total available time ( 9pm-7am) is when we are asleep and not up for complaining yet.

You see during day hours Telecom have to prioritise things and deal with compliants first which leaves little time for fixing faults and getting phones to do what in Bob's day phones used to do.

Bob will be pleased to know that Telecom have the following service available.
Asian Language Centre
0800 168 168

Mon-Fri 8:30am-6pm

This could be of particular use before Bob rat a tat tats the Indian taxi drivers.

Final thought , will Bob not worry about Telecom and agree that David Tua is champion material who required merely proper guidance?

I'm am almost certain Mr Peters will get back in ! I hope so as well because personally I know who I would rather see between him and Mr Hide. Mr Hide needs to retire.

The statement earlier about the Greens losing some edge is correct in my opinion, losing Their fabulous leader and Sud Bradford will I think prove to be detremental to the party. I think they need to lose Russel, I notice Sue Kedgley is becoming more familar to the public and Kevin Hague is trying to get out there to be seen ! Meteri Turei is actually quite on to it and funny in my opion after seeing her speak publicly and on a few shows, I think she will become a fmilar face to the public and I think that the public will love her however I think the only great players they have left are herself and Kedgley. Mind you of you get rid of Russel who replaces him ?? Exactly no one !

Bob you are completely right ! Mr Key simply can not speak english, I watched him when her was campaigning and then when her was first PM. My friend and I both agreed that give him a few months and he will be speaking properely with vocal training or speech therapy, however no such thing if anything he is getting worse ! It is embarrasing that the leader of our country can not speak properly !

However as a Prime Minister I think he is doing a good job and a few memebrs of his team let him down. I do not think he is as good as Helen was as a leader but he is definitely working hard and doing good things. The other thing is that I do not see Phill Goff as ever being the Prime Minister, I think Mr Goff knows that as well ! He simply just reminds me of a Don Brash, as boring ! No chrisma, if they were smart they would have Andrew Little in there now getting him ready ! Phil Goff is just passing time for the party, I would rather see Anette King, or Lianne Dalziel led the party, hand it back to the woman, the blokes there are a bit below average at the moment! Thank god Judith Tizard is gone, now we just need to get rif of Mallard and Carter !

Could be, but you have assumed that the Greens will still be there - without Jeanette and Sue they don't look nearly as attractive as an alternative for the party vote. The Maori Party could be punished for going with National, there is some ill feeling there as well.

Yes Bob but the elephant in the room is the Maori Party. Winston will make a comeback but the Maori Party will continue to fill the kingmaker role once more. The rise and rise of Shane Jones will bring the Maori Party closer to Labour and the Peter's factor will only be to guarantee the end of ACT.

Why is such credence given to the political utterences of a man who's party never won a seat, and who's practices' have been dubious to say the least?

And with Key's disappointing and watery performance to date, I'm hoping that 2011 does see a change of government, even with Winston. I'd vote for Phil Goff, or the Nats with Bill English as the leader. Key is far too timid, in my view.
